Students Love Enrichment Fridays!

EMCSD kicked off its first Enrichment Friday last month with the Robots & You theme and a successful outcome of joyful students. These optional school days offer students unique opportunities to explore themes outside the traditional classroom environment. With six Enrichment Fridays planned this year, students can dive into hands-on activities, discover new interests, and connect with others in a creative, relaxed setting. Click headline to read more!

Durfee Students Learn About Spanish Drácula

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, students in the Spanish Dual Language Immersion Program at Durfee School screened the 1931 Spanish adaptation of Drácula and enjoyed a captivating presentation from Alejandra Espasande, a film researcher and curator at the LA Cultural Preservation Society. Ms. Espasande shared insights into the often-overlooked or unknown history of Latin representation in early Hollywood films. Click headline for more info.

EMCSD Receives $200,000 Food & Nutrition Grant

El Monte City School District (EMCSD) nutrition services received a $200,000 grant from the California Department of Food and Agriculture, CA Farm to School Incubator Grant Program. It will provide new opportunities for students to learn about nutrition through hands-on experiences, including two years of student study trips to local farms. Read full story by clicking headline.

EMCSD revamps school calendar with Enrichment Fridays

El Monte City School District announced the addition of Enrichment Fridays to their 2024-2025 academic calendar. This initiative aims to give teachers and students a new school experience. Since Southern California’s first school was constructed here in 1852, El Monte has honored the education of its children and has grown into a thriving community of fourteen schools, which incudes five California Distinguished Schools and six ERP Honor Roll Schools, all dedicated to preparing our students for the challenge of a 21st century education.
